Recently, Li Xiaofei, Director of Guangdong Wumei Law Firm, along with partners Lu Junfeng, Ou Meixin, and Guan Hongmin, traveled to Hong Kong to participate in cross-border legal exchange activities. They visited Chaine, Chow & Barbara Hung, Chow Ruskin Brown, and the Hong Kong office of Charles Russell Speechlys. There, they engaged in in-depth discussions with senior Hong Kong family law practitioners regarding family law practices in both mainland China and Hong Kong, jointly exploring new avenues for collaboration in cross-border family law services.
As the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area continues to deepen, family law matters—such as cross-border marriages, property disposition, and child custody—are on the rise, and the coordination of family law systems and practical cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong have attracted significant attention.
During the exchange, the Wumei legal team engaged in candid dialogue with their counterparts from the Hong Kong law firm, learning from and sharing insights with one another. The two sides held multiple discussions on key topics such as collaboration models for cross-border family law services and the sharing of experiences. These discussions deepened the lawyers’ understanding of the legal systems and practical procedures in both Hong Kong and the Mainland, laying a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation.
During the visit to Siyashi Law Firm, the two sides co-hosted a seminar titled “Cross-Border Marriage and Family Matters in the Context of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area: Perspectives from Hong Kong and Mainland China,” at which Attorney Ou Meixin served as the keynote speaker. Based on the “One Country, Two Systems” framework and drawing on the latest judicial practices and representative cases from their respective professional experiences, both sides elaborated on the differences in legal provisions and practical procedures between the Mainland and Hong Kong regarding the statutory requirements for marriage, divorce procedures, the definition of marital property, principles of property division, as well as child custody, child support payments, and visitation arrangements. They focused on common challenges in cross-border family law cases—such as the application of law, key points in the assessment of evidence, and difficulties in enforcement coordination—and exchanged professional insights and practical experience.
The on-site exchange took place in a lively atmosphere, featuring in-depth discussions on professional ideas. It not only enhanced the lawyers from both regions’ understanding of each other’s legal systems and practical procedures but also laid a solid foundation for future cooperation in cross-border family law services.
